Virginia grower
Welcome to Green Hills Garden & Nursery!
Our Green Hills Garden & Nursery is in the process of raising an initial crop of “Korean Baby Maple” trees of the Acer Palmatum family. This was germinated from the maple seeds found near the Backyang Temple in South Korea’s Naejang Mountain.
These striking maple trees are known as “Baby Maples” because their leaves resemble a newborn’s tiny hands. We have begun to tend the third, fourth and fifth year maple seedlings.
Green Hills Nursery also grows Green Tea from world-famous Korean plants. We are currently participating in a USDA grant project designed to the hardiness of our tea plants in the winters of Northern Virginia. This project is designed to test among Russian (Sochi and Black Sea), Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultivars at our nursery in Catoctin Mountain in Lovettsville, Virginia.
We are also growing Camellia from Jeju Island in South Korea. Some of Korea’s Southern islands are native to the beautiful camellia. They are particularly attractive during the winter when their blooms peek through the snow. We are trying to raise these hardy camellias so that people can enjoy these beautiful flowers in the Northern Virginia region and other states of the US with cold weather.
Pictured here are Korean Baby Maples (KBM) grown in Virginia from the seeds collected in Naejang Mountain in South Korea. KBM belongs to Acer Palmatum of Korean origin. This is a green maple which will turn into yellow, brown, orange and red in the autumn. The Festival of Autumn Foliage for Korean Baby Maples has been well known at Naejang Mountain National Park during the first week of November in Korea.
